A.      COMPOUND AND COMPLEX SENTENCE

Compound – complex sentence is combination between compound sentence and complex sentence. Compound – complex sentence has two independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.

EXAMPLE:

After the two soccer players lost their game, they joined their other teammates for lunch, and they went to the movies.

“If we remove the dependent clause “after the two soccer players lost their game,” we have a compound sentence. The dependent clause makes this sentence compound-complex”.

B.       ARGUMENTATIVE PARAGRAPH TO APPLYING IN COMPOUND – COMPLEX SENTENCE

After we graduated from junior high school, we can choose senior high school that we choosing and we must be focus in the lesson in Junior High School to be stock work.  According to Iskandar, time has come the society to change the paradigm of grad of junior High school is not wrong to enter in senior high school. SMA is the school which after graduated from SMA we have to continued in university, SMK is the school that more drawing up their student going to their profession, and all of SMA or SMK is good depend on the student that experiencing. Perhaps, before we graduated from SMA or SMK we have to follow some examination, one of them is National examination, and we have to pass of the examination so that, we can continue to study in university or work.

A.      COMPLEX SENTENCE

A complex sentence is a sentence with an independent clause and at least one dependent clause. A dependent clause either lacks a subject or a verb or has both a subject and a verb that does not express a complete thought. A complex sentence always has a subordinator (as, because, since, after, although, when) or relative pronouns (who, that, which).

Example:

After eating lunch at The Java Restaurant, John went to the gym to exercise.

“The independent clause is “John went to the gym to exercise”. The subordinating clause before it is dependent on the main, independent clause. If one were to say “after eating lunch at The Java Restaurant,” it would be an incomplete thought”.

B.     PERSUASIVE PARAGRAPH TO APPLYING IN COMPLEX SENTENCE

Flood in Jakarta

After some area occur the disasters, floods have come to the general issue of society Jakarta. A lot of loss that resulted from floods disaster start from material loss as well as non material. However, we need realize that flood is come because the act by human self that always broken the world. Start from fell tree in a wild manner, throwing rubbish, and foul the river. So that, floods occurrence is not recurred again need the existence of real attitude from us to take care of environment

A.      COMPOUND SENTENCES

Compound sentences have two independent clauses. An independent is part of a sentence that can stand alone because it contains of subject, verb and expresses a complete thought. Usually, compound sentence contains of two simple sentences. The independent clause are combination by a conjunction (and, nor, but, or, yet, so, for).

Example:

They spoke to him in English, but he responded in Bahasa.

“This is also compound sentence that uses a conjunction but to separate two individual clauses”.

B.       INTERPRETING IDEA ABOUT COMPOUND SENTENCE (PARAGRAPH WRITING)

The most way for people to travel is by road, especially for short distance. It is cheaper than travelling by air.

They are many kinds of vehicles on the road such as car, pedicab, bikes, motorcycle, buses, and trains. We can choose one of them if necessary, or we can go by our own vehicles if we have one, but when many people drive their own motorized vehicles, it will cause traffic problems.

The government suggests that people use public transport to avoid traffic jams in many big cities. Now, the city bus fare is only about Rp. 5000, 00 for one trip, and of course everyone must obey the traffic regulation.
